Activity: Lead Mining and Industrial Archaeology

pennine mine
In the early 1800’s, the area surrounding Lane Head produced more lead than all the rest of the world. The lead mining industry had declined dramatically by the early 20c but the area shows the reminders of this industry so vital to the industrial revolution in Britain.

This half day activity will give you an insight to the traditional methods of mining in the North Pennines. The mine experience will put you and your group in situations where you will be pushed physically and emotionally, under the careful supervision of Paddle2Climbs qualified instructors.

The activity will involve some time underground which may involve working as team and the good uses of communication skills which can be taken in to every day life.
