Base Camp: Lane Head Centre

lanehead1.jpg

Lane Head Centre is a recently converted 19c village school situated in the scenic grandeur of Upper Weardale. Only a few miles from the North Pennine watershed, which is the highest point of any A class road in Britain, it offers panoramic views of the surrounding fells as well as easy access to the Lake District to the west, the Allen Valley’s and Hexham to the North, the towns and villages of Weardale to the East and Darlington and the Yorkshire Dales to the South.

The immediate area offers potential for fell walking, pony trekking, gill scrambling, canoeing, orienteering and rock climbing and industrial archaeology: in the first years of the 19c more lead was mined here than in the whole of the rest of the world.

just spent a great weekend at Lanehead. I'll be back! but next time I'm bringing my 3 Sons. I am absolutely convinced they will get a great deal from time here, even if it is only watching dear ole dad abseil through mortal fear or waterfall, or even being lobbed from a canoe in white water. At the very least they will know how to light the fire to dry me off.
Great food, good beer and fine company.
Cheers Jo & Dill.

A superb SPA assessment course, a wide range of locations, passing helped but the real attraction was sitting in tea shops in the mornings.

The SPA Training Course was run in a very easy to understand and proffessional way and taught me a lot about single pitch climbing and the way the MLTUK awards work. Also it only costs about half the price of the National Mountain Centres!

A well run SPA course that was very enjoyable to be on and taught me a lot with friendly and clear teaching all the way through the course, very professional and recomended.

I am looking for a place to stay for myself and ten other friends for a weekend in May would this be possible

I have just come back from a weekend at the Lanehead centre for my stag weekend with 14 of my mates. I wanted a weekend where all of my mates could get together and have a laugh. We certainly got that - enjoyable activities, excellent accommodation, loads of booze, far to much food! Best thing about paddle2climb is the flexibility of the staff and the programme. Joe and the team bent over backwards to provide exactly what i wanted and they delivered.

Thanks to Joe and the team for a memorable weekend.

Came to paddle2climb for my daughter's 18th birthday. Had a great time and would recommend it to anyone who wants an occasion to remember. Joe makes a mean curry.

Joe/Kate on behalf of everyone who attended at the weekend a real big thank you, we had loads of fun with the activitiies and the socialising, keep up the good work
Thanks
Gill
